FAQ

Business questions about Charitips: what it costs, when you are billed, who gets the tax receipt, what happens to unclaimed donations, and what data you share.

Questions a manager, a finance team or a product owner asks before starting. Technical questions are in Troubleshooting.

Money and billing

What does Charitips cost?

Prices are on the pricing page. What each flow needs from your plan is in Plans and prerequisites.

When are we billed?

Donations on a campaign without a fixed budget are added up and billed on a monthly invoice, so a single payment a month covers all of them. A campaign with a fixed budget is invoiced in full when it is activated, and opens once that invoice is paid. See Billing and fiscal receipts.

How is Charitips paid?

By your plan, and on the donations. Charitips bills 8 % of every donation collected to the charity, to run the service: checking the charities, paying them, issuing the tax receipts, the platform and support. You never pay it, and the tax receipt covers the full amount of the donation. No donation is lost: one that nobody claims still goes to a charity of your selection.

Can we cap what we spend?

Yes. Give the campaign a fixed budget: once it is used up, new donations are refused. For donation matching, you set the rate and caps: a total for the campaign, a maximum per donation and a maximum per donor. See Campaigns and Donation matching.

Can we cancel a donation?

Yes, as long as it has not been invoiced yet: delete it.

Can we test without paying?

Yes, on the sandbox: test credentials, test card and test SEPA account, and no real money moves.

Charities

Who picks the charity?

You pick the list of charities offered. Within it, the choice is usually your customer's, on your page, in a Charitips widget or page. Your customers can also vote on how a budget is split, or your product can pick the charity itself. See How Charitips works.

Which charities can we offer?

Charities from the Charitips catalog. You build your own selection, or use one that Charitips keeps up to date. Each charity keeps its own profile (mission, logo, impact) up to date, in several languages. See Charities and selections.

What happens if a customer never picks?

On an open-ended campaign, a donation still unclaimed at its expiry date is assigned by Charitips to a charity of your selection that has received the least so far. The expiry date is two months after the donation by default; a campaign can set another period, up to one year. No donation is lost.

Tax receipts

Do we get a tax receipt?

Yes. When your company funds the donations, Charitips issues the receipt to your company. In France, these donations give your company a 60 % tax reduction, 40 % on the part above 2 million euros a year, within 20,000 euros or 0.5 % of its turnover if that is higher; the excess carries over to the next five years. It applies to charities that issue receipts. Receipts are grouped once a year by default; a campaign can issue them when it closes instead.

Can our customers get a receipt for their own money?

Yes, for individuals and for businesses, in two different ways.

  • Individuals get a receipt in their name when they pay the donation with their own money and give their name and postal address. In France, the receipt gives them a 66 % tax reduction on the donation, within 20 % of their taxable income. Donations to charities that help people in difficulty (meals, housing, care) or victims of domestic violence give 75 %, up to 2,000 euros a year; above that, 66 %. This needs the B2C use case on your account. See Your users give their own money.
  • Businesses get a receipt in their company's name when each one has its own account under yours. The donations of its campaigns go on receipts made out with its fiscal information (company name, legal registration number, address), whether it is invoiced directly or you are invoiced for it, and give the company tax reduction described above. This needs the account hierarchy feature. See Account hierarchy.

A donation created with hasBeenCharged: true always gives a receipt in a person's name, never in a company's.

Can every charity issue a receipt?

Most of them can. Only a few refused that Charitips issued fiscal receipts on their behalf. For those charities, you can contact them directly. Check fiscalReceiptsSupport on the charities returned by the API.

Your customers and your data

What do we need to send about our users?

Nothing, for donations your company funds: an amount and a campaign id are enough. You send a person's details only when Charitips needs them: an email address and a first name when Charitips emails the donation, and a full name and postal address for a receipt in their name.

Can we offer giving to our own business customers?

Yes. Each business customer gets its own account under yours, with its own campaigns, dashboard and receipts. They can be invoiced directly, or you are invoiced for all of them. This needs the account hierarchy feature. See Account hierarchy and Donations for your business customers.

Can employees give from their pay or their days off?

Yes, in your HR or payroll software, through Charitips widgets embedded in it. The employee picks the charity and gets the fiscal receipt in their name. Talk with our team to enable it for your account. See Employee giving.

Can we show the impact to our customers?

Yes. Admin widgets show your live campaign statistics and receipts inside your product, and Charitips generates images and documents to share each donation. See Admin widgets and The gift card.

Can our users see points or coins instead of euros?

Yes. Show donations in your product's own virtual currency (credits, points, coins, miles) at a rate you set, fully abstracted if you want; the API only receives the converted amount in euro cents. Showing the euro value to your users is your choice. In your own interface you convert the amounts yourself; the charity selection widget does it for you, showing amounts, the user's balance and each charity's impact in your unit. The fiscal receipt, your invoices and your dashboard statistics stay in euros, and what the gift funds at the charity is always shown, from its impact indicators. See Donations in your own currency.

Do we need developers?

For the API, yes, or a coding agent: these docs are written so an agent can build from them. See Set up your coding agent. Widgets need a few lines in your pages, and the Charitips dashboard handles campaigns without code.

Our case is not in the docs. What now?

Every flow combines the same pieces: a campaign, donations, a claim. Browse What you can build, and if nothing fits, contact us.
